Thinking about getting involved in international or cross boundary trade seems so complicated and drag? Here are an a list of documents that might be required when involving in international trade.

The Importer/ Exporter needs to have a Business Registration Number (BRN) and Tax Account Number (TAN)

INVOICE

  • Record of evidence of transaction between importer and exporter 
  • Issued by Exporter

PACKING LIST
Inventory of the incoming cargo required for customs clearance

  • Issued by Exporter

BILL Of LADING (BOL or B/L)

  • Proof of receipt of goods by the carrier obliging him to deliver the goods to the consignee
  • Issued by Shipping Company / Freight Forwarder / Shipper

BILL OF ENTRY (ALSO KNOWN AS SINGLE GOODS DECLARATION)

  • Formal declaration describing goods that are being imported or exported 


INSURANCE CERTIFICATE (IF APPLICABLE)

  • Representation of insurance policy taken out by importer/exporter depending on Incoterm®
  • Applies only in case the terms of payment is on a CIF basis. In which case the exporter is under the obligation to submit to the consignee an Insurance Certificate.

CERTIFICATE OF INSPECTION (IF APPLICABLE)
A third party confirmation prior to shipment if the quantity and value of goods is according to the buyer’s specifications.

  • Issued by Third Party (SGS, Bureau Veritas)

CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN

  • An international trade document attesting the origin of goods in a particular shipment 
  • Country of Origin or country in which the product has been processed / manufactured.

IMPORT PERMIT (IF APPLICABLE)

-Agricultural Products

-Arms, Ammunition and Explosives

-Canned meat products, pet food and animal by-products

-Cells and Batteries

-Chemicals and Pesticides

-Fish and Fish Products

-Flowers, Fruits, Vegetables and Wood

-Food Items

-Iron Bars

-Live Animals, Meat and Meat Products

-Medicines and Pharmaceutical Products

-Motorcycle Brakes

-Radio-Communication and Telecommunication Equipment

-Refrigerators, Freezers and Refrigerating Equipment

-Toys, Helmets and Plastic Fittings

EXPORT PERMIT (IF APPLICABLE)

-Live animals(all species including birds).

– Meat and edible meat offal of bovine animals, swine, sheep, goats, horses, asses, mules or hinnies (fresh, chilled, frozen).

– Vegetables (fresh and dried).

– Spices (ginger, saffron, turmeric and other spices classified under H. S. Code 09.10).

– Rice. 11.01 – Wheat or Meslin flour.

– Other prepared or preserved meat, meat offal or blood.

– Sugar.

– Sand.

– Limestone.

– Porti and Cement.

– Organs (animals).

– Serum, samples of blood, biologicals needed for veterinary research vaccines (dead or live attenuated,    freeze-dried or wet form).

– Textiles and textile -articles for export to USA and Canada.

– Bird’s feathers.

 -Rough diamonds

These procedures might vary depending on the type of cargo and even change with time, so it is advisable to stay up to date with the changes for a swift and easy time.
